The challenge
Your practice grew. The investment management burden grew with it.
You became a financial planner to help families plan for retirement, coordinate estates, and navigate major life transitions. Not to read earnings reports, parse strategist research notes, or spend your evenings building compliance documentation. Yet as your practice grew, the investment management function consumes more of your most valuable resource: time.
Regulatory burden is real and growing
Every portfolio decision requires documented rationale and a structured process. Building that infrastructure in-house is a full-time job you never signed up for.
Reactive work is stealing your day
Ad hoc research requests. Filtering financial media noise. Responding to headline-driven questions about stocks, interest rates, or whoever was on television this morning. Every hour on these tasks is an hour away from financial planning and client relationships.
Clients need answers you can deliver confidently
Clients expect clear, thoughtful narratives in plain language. 'Don't worry about it' only creates more anxiety. A real explanation grounded in data and a coherent thesis builds trust.
Your process needs governance
Your portfolio decisions may be sound, but the process around those decisions is often ad hoc and difficult to defend under scrutiny. Formalized investment committees, extensive fund due diligence, and documented construction rationale: most independent practices lack these entirely.
The solution
A complete outsourced investment office. Built around your practice.
CIO Complete absorbs the investment management burden so you can focus on what you do best: serving clients. We deliver portfolio models, ongoing analysis, compliance-ready documentation, and a dedicated analyst team you work with directly.
Compare your options
| Do it yourself | Hire an internal PM | TAMP | CIO Complete | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Hours of your time. Risking burnout and time away from clients | High; salary plus benefits, key-person risk (your process leaves when they do) | Moderate to high; fees rise as AUM grows | Flat monthly fee |
| Due diligence & compliance | You build and maintain it all | Depends on the expertise of hire | Opaque and generic process | Full documentation: quarterly reports, compliance checklists, change rationale |
| Access to independent experts | None | One person | Call center or service rep | Direct connection with the people making the decisions |
| Client-ready research | You write it yourself | Depends on the hire's skill set | Regular commentary and reports; no tailored analysis | Weekly, monthly, quarterly commentary; client-specific ad hoc research and analysis |
| Portfolio construction | Varies; often ad hoc | Depends on the individual | Standardized, consensus-driven models | Thematic, conviction-driven; actively managed and reviewed quarterly |
| Time returned to you | None | Significant, but at high dollar cost | Still need to translate generic research for clients | Significant; portfolio and commentary arrives ready to use in client conversations |
| Personalization | Create your own message and portfolio | High; integrated as team member or partner | Limited; one-size-fits-many models | You remain in total control of assets and message. Everything we do can be tailored to your needs. |
